The International Olympic Academy starts once again this year its educational activities in Ancient Olympia!
The 13th International Session for Directors of National Olympic Academies begins on May 2 and ends on May 9. The special subject of the Session is: “The value of excellence as an educational tool”
Directors of National Olympic Academies from all over the world will participate in the Session and it is expected that important conclusions will be drawn on the methods used by various NOAs in order to reinforce to the young children their faith on one of the strongest Values of Olympism, the value of “pursuit of excellence”.
The IOA President will declare the opening of the works of the Session on Sunday at 17:30 and wreaths will be laid at the stele of Pierre de COUBERTIN, renovator of the Olympic Games, and at the commemorative monument of John KETSEAS and Carl DIEM, pioneers of the International Olympic Academy.
There are nine lecturers from all over the world:
Mr Conrado DURÁNTEZ (ESP), President of the Paniberican Association of Olympic Academies, President of the National Olympic Academy of Spain, on the subject: “The role of the IOA in the spread of the Olympic ideal”.
Prof. Dr Stephan WASSONG (GER), Academic Director, German Sport University Cologne, Olympic Studies Centre, on the subject: “Demands on athletes to display excellence”.
Lecture by Ms Laurence MUNOZ (FRA), Vice President of NOA of France, on the subject: “Performance by virtue of integrity”.
Lecture by Mr Ntinos MICHAELIDES (CYP), Director of NOA of Cyprus, on the subject: “The value of excellence for a sound sport: myth or reality”.
Lecture by Prof. Dr Halina ZDEBSKA-BIZIEWSKA (POL), University of Physical Education, Κraκow, Chairperson, Fair Play Club, NOC & NOA of Poland, on the subject: “The strive for athletic excellence: a central element of Olympic education”.
Lecture by Mr Olivier NIAMKEY (IOC), Head of Athletes Section, Olympic Solidarity, on the subject: “Olympic Solidarity: The value of excellence in sport”.
Lecture by Prof. Irena MARTINKOVA (CZE), Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, on the subject: “The idea of ‘kalokagathia’ ”.
Lecture by Ms Maha ZAOUI (TUN), President of NOA of Tunisia, on the subject: “Equality of opportunities and excellence”.
Lecture by Prof. Silvia DALOTTO (ARG), CEP Advisor Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee, on the subject: “Excellence as an educational value in Youth Olympic Games”.
