The IOA honors the Olympic Champions in Ancient Olympia

The International Olympic Academy has invited all the members of the Greek Olympic Team in Rio this coming weekend, from the 15th to the 16th of October, to its premises in Ancient Olympia in order to honor them for their successes and their participation to the Olympic Games of last summer.

The event begins on Saturday afternoon with the speech of the IOA President and Chef de Mission of the Greek team at the Olympic Games, Mr Isidoros Kouvelos, on the subject of: “The importance of the Olympic values for the education of youth today and the role of the Olympic Champions in this process”.

Afterwards, the athletes will be awarded a prize for representing honorably Greece to the Olympic Games and Prof. Dimitrios Gargalianos will give a lecture on “Dual Career”.

Saturday’s event will be concluded with the deposition of a wreath at the stele of Pierre de Coubertin and a visit to the Historic Archives “Athens 2004”.

On Sunday the day will begin with a visit to the Archeological Site and the Museum of Ancient Olympia while the two-day event will be concluded with a round table on the subject: “The demands of contemporary top level sport”.

All the Hellenic Olympic Committee Board Members are invited to the event.
