The Opening Ceremony of the 55th International Session for Young Participants of the International Olympic Academy

 

The Opening Ceremony of the 55th International Session for Young Participants of the International Olympic Academy will take place on Sunday, May 24 at 18:00 on the hill of the Pnyx. The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Prokopis Pavlopoulos, will honour the Ceremony with his presence and will declare the Opening of the works of the Session.

The Deputy Minister of Culture, Education and Religious Affairs, Mr Nikos Xydakis, the President of the international Olympic Academy, Mr Isidoros Kouvelos, and the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committte, Mr Spyros Capralos will address the guests while the President of the International Olympic Committee, Dr Thomas Bach, will send a message.

175 young men and women from 90 countries will participate in the 55th International Session from May 23 to June 6. The special subject of which will be “Olympic Movement: The process of renewal and adaption”.

The musical parts of the Opening Ceremony of the 55th International for Young Participants session of the International Olympic Academy will be interpreted by the Greek Soprano, Ms Gina Fotinopoulou, accompanied by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens under the conduction of Mr Eleftherios Kalkanis.

The Male Choir of the Commercial Bank will interpret the Olympic Anthem and the National Anthem of Greece under the conduction of Mr Stavros Beris.

The two-week Session that is traditionally organized annually in June or July is an introduction to Olympism and the Olympic Movement. The IOA gathers a large international group of young people, mainly students, Olympic athletes, people who are involved in sports, teach or work in the respective National Olympic Committees or National Olympic Academies.

The aim of the IOA is to educate, but mainly motivate young people to use productively their experiences and knowledge from the Session, so as to propagate the Olympic ideals and train other people upon their return to their countries.
