The President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach

The President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, during his recent visit in Ancient Olympia, met with the students of the Master’s Degree Programme in Olympic Studies that is organised by the University of Peloponnese with the support of the International Olympic Academy.

Dr Bach, who attended the Lighting Ceremony of the Olympic Flame for the “Rio 2016”, talked with the students, heard their impressions about the programme and was photographed with them at the Baron Pierre de Coubertin stele, together with the IOA President Isidoros Kouvelos and the IOA Honorary Dean Konstantinos Georgiadis.

This Master’s Degree Programme in Olympic Studies is an innovation for the Olympic Movement internationally and is supported by the Olympic Solidarity (International Olympic Committee). The educational programme is based on the three pillars of the Olympic Movement, i.e. education, sport and culture; that form the base of Olympism and Olympic Pedagogy.

The programme’s philosophy is consistent with the philosophy of the Olympic Movement for the promotion of Olympic ideal internationally, the propagation of knowledge and research in Olympic issues and the equal participation worldwide.
