1st “IMAGINE PEACE” Youth Campon Olympic Truce in Ancient Olympia
A Youth Camp will be hosted at the birthplace of the Olympic Games from July 26th to July 31st, on the initiative of the International Olympic Truce Centre and the cooperation of the International Olympic Academy in order to discuss about the role of Olympic Truce in modern times but also about the broader contribution of the Olympic Ideal to peace.
The 1st “IMAGINE PEACE” Youth Camp is organized by the International Olympic Truce Centre, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, and in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Sports, Development and Peace, the British Council, the International Olympic Academy and the Youth and Lifelong Learning Foundation.
More than 80 young men and women, from five continents, will gather from July 26th to July 31st in Ancient Olympia so as to examine how the institution of Olympic Truce and its values can form the basis for the creation of a perception of peaceful co-existence, based on the respect of differentiation, understanding, peaceful settlement of differences and social incorporation.
Mr Wilfred Lemke, Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary – General on Sport for Development and Peace will attend the opening ceremony of “IMAGINE PEACE” Youth Camp that will take place on Saturday, July 26th at “Dimitrios Vikelas” Lecture Hall.
