The International Olympic Academy held an extraordinary meeting after the announcement of the death of Petros Linardos and has decided to publish the following resolution in his memory:

With deep sorrow, the Ephoria of the International Olympic Academy was informed of the loss of the great journalist, historian and writer Petros Linardos.

For more than 70 years, this great teacher of sports journalism, served with his pen the sports and Olympic movement, highlighting the Olympic values.

Through his historical research he illuminated unknown aspects of Greek sports and Olympic history and highlighted unknown and anecdotal stories which would have been lost over the years.

His faith and devotion to the Ideals and Principles of Olympism, led him to continue writing articles until his last moments, always focusing on the positive side of sports and for that reason the Greek sports journalists call him a “teacher”.

The deceased was a close friend of the International Olympic Academy, which honored him for his contribution in 2006 with the “OLYMPIA” Award, while the International Olympic Committee, in 2003, awarded him the Olympic Order.

The IOA Ephoria also decided

  1. To express its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and to the Hellenic Sports Press Association of which he was President for 16 years.
  2. The IOA flags to be flown at half-mast for five days
  3. To publish this resolution in the press as well as on the IOA’s social media
  4. To establish a scholarship in his name for the annual participation of a journalist in the Olympic Seminar
