New educational initiative with the Bahrain Olympic Academy
A new cooperation between the International Olympic Academy and the Bahrain Olympic Academy commenced on 24th July 2023, with the signing of an MoU. Such step will consolidate the development of sport movement in the Kingdom of Bahrain, providing a solid ground for the youth of the Arab society.
The enhancement of the role of the NOAs has been one of the IOA’s priorities in its new strategic plan, thus leading to the identification of productive synergies with the NOAs, creating the conditions for high level educational opportunities worldwide and providing to the youth and people involved with the Olympic and sport movement with the knowledge and tools to act as ambassadors of Olympic Values in their countries.
The IOA delegation, consisted of the IOA President, Isidoros Kouvelos, the IOA Dean, Prof. Konstantinos Georgiadis and Ms Alexandra Karaiskou, in charge of the National Olympic Academies worldwide, visited Bahrain from 23th to 25th July, in order to discuss on the initiatives that can be expanded regarding the development of the Olympic Education in the sports movement of Bahrain.
The MoU was signed by the IOA President, Isidoros Kouvelos, and the NOC Secretary General, Mr Faris Mustafa Al-Kooheji.
During the official meeting, the IOA President, presented to HRH Prince Shaikh Khaled Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, NOC President of Bahrain, the IOA’s mission and its role in the Olympic Movement, focusing on the new forms of collaboration between the two institutions in Bahrain as well as at the IOA premises in Ancient Olympia.
As the IOA President stated:
“The International Olympic Academy will make any effort to awaken the National Olympic Academies around the globe and build joint activities and projects in the fields of Olympic Education, culture and social science in close cooperation with their relevant NOCs. The NOAs are being empowered”.
