The educational activities of the International Olympic Academy for 2014 start today with the 12th Joint International Session for Presidents or Directors of National Olympic Academies and Officials of National Olympic Committees. The Session is organized at the IOA premises in Ancient Olympia and the President of the International Olympic Academy, Mr Isidoros Kouvelos, will declare the opening of the Session. The subject of the Session that will be concluded on May 17th is: “Olympic Values in Education” and the lecturers are eminent personalities of the international Sports and Olympic Family.

The lectures will be given by:

Assoc. Prof. Dr Emanuele ISIDORI (ITA), Director of the General Pedagogy Laboratory, Coordinator of the Master in Law, Economy and Ethics of Sport, University of Rome “Foro Italico”, on the subject: “Sport, dignity and human rights”.

Prof. Dr Eugenia MartÍnez-GORROÑO (ESP),  Director of the Centre of Olympic Studies, Autonomous University of Madrid, Member of the NOA of Spain, on the subject: “The Olympic Values in the educational reform proposed by Pierre de Coubertin (1889-1937): An education for the peace, the freedom and the democracy”.

Dr Alexandre MESTRE (POR), Sports Lawyer, Former Secretary of State for Sport and Youth in Portugal, Member of the NOA of Portugal, Member of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee, on the subject: “Ekecheiria as ‘educational idea’ to develop a culture of peace”.

Prof. Dr Heather Reid (USA), Professor and Chair of Philosophy, Morningside College, on the  subject: “Kalokagathia: Understanding Olympic ethics in terms of beautiful goodness”.

Asst. Prof. Dr Sarah Jane TEETZEL (CAN), Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management, University of Manitoba, on the subject: “Teaching Olympic Values: The idea of respect”.

Dr Vassiliki Tzachrista (GRE), PhD holder on Social and Educational Politics, IOA Archaeologist, on the subject: “Diversity as a contemporary pedagogical value in education”.

Mrs Eugenia Chidhakwa (ZIM), Director of the NOA of Zimbabwe, Assistant Lecturer at the Bindura University of Science Education, Board Member of the Zimbabwe Sports & Recreation Commission, on the subject: “Olympic values: The Olympic Values Educational Program (OVEP) – an African context of hunhu/ubuntu”.

Lecture by Prof. Dr Heike Tiemann (GER), Professor of Sport Science, Ludwigsburg University of Education, on the subject: “Teaching Olympic and Paralympic values”.

Dr Clemencia Anaya Maya (COL), Adviser to the Colombian Ministry of Sport in International Relations, Tutor of the IOC Executive-Masters-in-Sports-Organisation-Management, on the subject: “Social transformation through sport and Olympic values”.
