The “1st ICMG Olympia Seminar”, which was organized by the International Olympia Academy and the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, took place at the premises of the International Olympic Academy in Ancient Olympia between 2 and 5 October 2013. Eight distinguished lecturers presented historical, socio-political, economical and organizational aspects of the Mediterranean Games, while 33 athletes/participants shared their experiences and opinions regarding the Mediterranean Games. In their effort to find ways to improve certain aspects of these Games, they formed different discussion groups and they had morning and afternoon meetings every day.
The programme of this seminar ended up at the Panathenaic Stadium on the 5th of October 2013 with attending the handover of the Olympic Flame from the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee to the President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee.
The intense programme combined with the interest and enthusiasm of the participants made the 1st ICMG Olympia Seminar a very promising forum for discussion and analysis, through which the Executive Committee of the MG will be aware of the athletes’ problems and concerns, in order to improve and deliver even more successful Games in the future.
The President of the ICMG, Mr Amar Addadi, expressed his total satisfaction for the “ICMG Olympia Seminar” and together with the Chairman of the ICMG Commission of Development and Cooperation, Mr Tulio Paratore from Italy, are examining the idea of establishing the Seminar on an annual or biannual basis and they have already started preparing the next one for 2014.
