The CISM International Symposium 2021 started with the Opening Ceremony at the IOA premises in Ancient Olympia with the aim of developing the science of physical education and sports in the CISM members, as a tool for optimal management of World Military Sports issues.

This year’s Symposium entitled: “From Hoplites to Modern Soldiers” and at the International Olympic Academy premises have gathered delegations from all CISM members who have been expressed with great words for the renovated premises, which were recently inaugurated by IOC President dr. Thomas Bach.

The IOA President Isidoros Kouvelos, in his opening speech welcomed the delegates from around the world, analyzed the relationship between the Olympic Movement and Military Sports, emphasizing the fact that both IOA and CISM have a parallel history and a common goal: to place sport at the service of world peace.

Mr. Kouvelos honored with the Anniversary Medal for the 60 years of the International Olympic Academy, the President of CISM, Brigadier General Herve Piccirillo and the Chief of Chief of the Hellenic Defence Staff, General Constantinos Floros.
