Gertrud Pfister has gained aPhD in history and sociology and an Honorary Doctorate at the SemmelweisUniversity, Budapest. From 1980 to 2000, she worked as professor at the FreieUniversität Berlin. Currently she is professor at the University of Copenhagen.In Germany and in Denmark, Pfister conducted several national and internationalresearch projects, among others funded by the IOC. The results of her projectsare published in numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and several books.
From 1983 to 2001 Gertrud Pfister was President of the International Societyfor the History of Physical Education and Sport. In 2004 she was elected asPresident of the International Sport Sociology Association.
